Megan's Reading Response 2

I really enjoyed our discussion about texts and literacy. I think that I developed a greater understanding of texts and how to help students understand them and make them important to them. I am no where perfect but I am have a greater understanding which is good for me! I think that reading the INTASC principles are a great way to get started with texts. It gives an outline of what we should teach our students. It also gives us an idea how we should assess our students. In our curriculum design I think there needs to be a place for comprehension checks, make sure the students know what is going on so far. Talk to them about previous knowledge find out what they know about a text before you continue. There should also be a place for application and answer the question of why this is important to the students. I like the 3 step process of preparation, action and reflection. I think that is a good outline to follow when trying to figure how to teach text and help the students understand literacy. There are also many ways to teach a text and I know that figuring out what is best is going to come with trial and error. It will be a good challenge to find out how students react to different things and changing a lesson plan.
