Megan's Reponse 1

Reading this article made me rethink what I wrote as answers to the pre-assessment survey. I realize now that a theatre text is print and non print text. Print meaning a textbook or a script and non print meaning a performance or using the body. I want to incorporate both into my classroom. With these texts in mind I can better focus my lessons to present the best possible way my students can learn about literacy techniques etc. I want to give recognition and appreciation of both kinds of texts to create meaningful analysis of that text. I really liked the system that Julia used with the pattern of action, evaluation and reflection. I think all are important when creating a theatre text and being successful at it. I think working with a literacy specialist would be really effective in helping me see better ways I can work with the students and the texts they are presented. I also really liked that when presenting a text the student should always know through what lenses they should be looked at the text. For example, if they are analyzing the poem they are looking at it as a dramaturge or if they are writing a play they look at the text through a playwriting lenses. With this information I am helping my students gain a more focused view on what they are studying and are able to explore the situation further. I also think that each student that comes into my theatre classroom is a theatre text that is waiting to be read. We all look at the world through different lenses and we see each other differently. Knowing this I can incorporate their living theatre text into my classroom curriculum, which I am very excited about.
