Day 2 of Teaching - Krystle

What a great day! Even though things went well the first day I think that they went much better today. I think that some of the things that contributed to this were we were better prepared for the time frame and we knew the students a little better. We had an activity in which the students shared one sentence with the class that they would say to someone who had effected them in some way. They said the sentence once and then repeated it but this time kept going. We got to hear their inner monologues which were really touching. I was very impressed by how willing the students were to share. They were open and honest. We did have a girl that went too far for her and so she went down to talk to the counselor. Was that the best option or should Mr. Moss have talked to her? Or one of us? I think that for our situation it was best that she talked to the counselor but will that always be the case and how do you know?
Shifting gears a little the class did really well even though there wasn't a whole lot of moving around today. I think that we had a nice balance of individual and group work. It was definitely a quieter day. One of the things we learned before we left was an expectation that Mr. Moss had for this unit that we had not included and so we will be working on incorporating that. So now we are working on having students cut 6 monologues instead of the 2 we had planned on. It seems a little much to have 6 monologues cut for a 6 day unit but I think that it will help push the students and allow them to reach out and find new things.
