Megan Teaching Day #2

Well two days done! Today was another good day, the students were a little tired today so the energy was lacking, but I think we were able to pick it up. We did mostly activities today, but with some centered instruction. We did an activity today about emotion, and being able to portray real emotion in a monologue and be able to connect with your piece. Basically the students were to express their inner monologues about a certain person in their life. We got some amazing responses and I heard some of the most beautiful monologues I have ever heard. Someone should write a play about them. But what I was wondering is how far do you push students. I think we prepared them for the activity and we told them to only share something they feel comfortable sharing and that we were going to take a leap and try something new, we expressed this many times. But we ended up with one girl having to go to a counselor because I think she opened up some feelings that she had been hiding. We didn’t even push the students they went there on their own. But should we also precaution them to not go somewhere emotionally they aren’t comfortable with and there really is a too far? I think we emphasized some of these things. But what is a right balance? I know I have been pushed as an actor and these students are in an advanced acting class so they need to be exposed to more and we definitely expect more of them. Overall I was really impressed with where they were willing to go and what they shared. I would love to write a play about them!
