After our first day of teaching, Breanna, Kristy and I had quite the time. We had a class of 28 fun and energy filled Theatre 1 students.
If I could change anything about our first day, I would pay attention to our time better. In theory we are constantly learning how students have shorter attention spans, and it definitely carried over into practice. In my teacher mind I was constantly trying to gauge how much longer I thought the students could handle a certain activity and still get things out of it.
One thing that really struck me during our time at Springville was that I was constantly reflecting on WHY we were doing a certain activities. There were certain things we did that sounded good on our lesson plan but didn't really translate over for the students. One activity was only 10 minutes long, but we didn't tie it back to the REASON why we did it and the entire activity seemed almost lost on the students. Sigh. Oh the joys of teaching, learning and growing!
