Megan Teaching Day #3
Today was another great day teaching, although the students were tired. It was just a Friday. But overall I think that we all handled instruction pretty well. We actually didn't get to our planned assessment, because they had a shorter class period today that we were unaware of. Time just flew by! But thankfully they ended with something solid. We were doing a lesson on characterization and objectives. We had them fill out a character analysis sheet and talk about it with a partner. Then we had volunteers come up and we asked them questions about their character. We actually had great enthusiasm for this part of it. They all filled out the sheet and shared with their partner. At the end of the lesson we decided that this was good enough assessment. They did everything we wanted them to do and did it well. There was no need for anything else. I noticed that we all adjusted well to that and it ended well. I also think that if the students are learning and you can see them working hard that is another assessment. And if your assessment changes i think that is just fine because we did what the students needed and didn't over load them. At the end of the lesson we gave them some Homework, they thought it was so much work to have to write 2 paragraphs on their character. Oh man they are in for a big surprise when they come to college! After the lesson we talked with the students and got to know them better. I think they are really warming up to us. They like to talk a lot, but I noticed that when we ask them to please be quiet that they listen. I also noticed that each of my teaching partners have different ways of going about that. It's fun to listen to other class room management ideas. I really like this teaching thing! I like that we are actually teaching a unit and more than one lesson. Each day I am learning more and more about what I would like to do in my future classroom.
