Kirsten's Post 6

Assessments should be looked at as assessments not just tests, and as a Theatre teachers we need to learn different ways to make sure our students are understanding the material. I love the ideas about putting them in different groups and allowing them to create a drama production or creating images etc. In a drama class we have a beautiful opportunity to allow projects be our assessments. I do not think that a written test is a very effective way to assess students knowledge anyway and this really allows students to show their strengths in their body. We need to let them get out of their minds and move with their bodies. I also think that it is more effective to have each side of the mind stimulated and thinking in the right brain allows that to happen. I also like the idea of collaborating on projects or productions. I think that could be really useful and add another dimension to your school and your classroom. I also believe that different types of assessment is good. It should always be a presentation but also a script or even how did you effectively work in a group collaborating? Always be looking to find different ways to assess them. That will add to your classroom.
