My 5th Post

I decided to do a little research on the teaching method of Questioning. It's about using questions to help discussions and get the students thinking. I can see how this would be very useful in the theatre classroom. You would use it to get the students to participate in an intelligent discussion and give them ideas for other things. By questioning the student they have to participate and the questions need to be such that it gets the students thinking and allows them to come up with their own questions. But when a student responds it would be more helpful to not just acknowledge what they say but also to expound on it when it will help further the conversation. Sometimes some things just need to be said. Lectures can be boring but by asking the students questions it involves them and so they are engaged in the process rather than just listening to what you have to say. You can use questioning when talking about what the students know about theatre or a certain aspect of theatre. It's a way to gage their knowledge. A downfall of questioning is that you may not give the students enough time to think or the students may be hesitant to answer. Just because they don't answer right away doesn't mean that they aren't thinking about the question. When asking the questions you have to make sure that they are appropriate and that they get the students thinking. That means that they need to have meaning and be more than just yes or no answers. I think that questioning is a really useful method in the classroom when done properly.
